Swimming

Our teachers are trained through the Amateur Swimming Association or the Swimming Teachers Association as well as undertaking continual on the job training. They are also CRB checked and will hold a first aid and/or rescue qualification. Many are also qualified to teach Rookie Lifesaving, Mini-polo, Synchro, Diving and Aquafit. Lisa, our company founder is an STA Tutor and can therefore offer up to date training/qualifications for all our staff. Our assistants will be working towards their Student Teachers Swim quaification or their STA Level 2 Beginners qualification. We presently have 27 on our staff.

Our class ratios are small being much lower than that suggested by the Governing Body for swimming. Pre-school and non-swimmers will have a maximum of 7 in a class and will very often have an assistant in the water as well, keeping the ratios low at 1:4. All other classes will have approximately 8 in a class. Adults are given a more personal approach and work either on a 1 to 1 basis or in very small groups of 3 or 4. Private lessons are also available on request.

We teach classes of school children at their local Leisure Centre; the instruction, pool booking and coach hire are all arranged by Aquarius Swimschool. We follow a unique in-house programme that works towards the National Curriculum requirements. We work very closely with ND PEDPASS supporting them with their school teacher training and making sure schools are meeting the National Curriculum for swimming within their lessons. We also manage the government funded year 6 top up scheme for all of North Devon and Torridge and have done so for the last 4 years.
