Lessons
Learning to swim can be such a nerve racking experience for both the young and the old, but once mastered it is great fun. It will help create a healthier lifestyle if undertaken regularly and enable a safer environment when around water. All our classes have smaller pupil teacher ratios than those recommended by The ASA or The STA.
Babies & Toddlers – Babies can start swimming with us from birth although we recommend after 6 weeks as they can struggle to maintain their body temperature prior to this. These children will follow the Baby Swim Foundation Programme (BSFP) which will help them develop the skills that enable confidence and safety in water, plus act as a foundation for learning to swim. Once children on this scheme have passed all four levels they will then progress to The ASA’s Duckling awards. For more information about the BSFP please click the link on the friends page.
Children – Lessons for children are taught using the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS). This is an all-inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. The NPTS emphasis is on learning through FUN, developing their FUNdamental multi aquatic skills.
Adult - Lessons for the most nervous adult to the more advanced. Small class ratios are ideal allowing more individual attention. An advantage with our adult lessons, is that there is no public swimming around you or watching you learn.
Private Lessons - For whatever reason, we can offer private lessons to suit the individuals needs, these can be on a 1:1 or a 1:2 ratio. Have as many or as few lessons as are needed. Contact Aquarius Swimschool direct to find out more regarding times and prices.
School Lessons – These lessons are usually undertaken at a school’s local Leisure Centre. We will provide a school with a full support package including a cd with additional information. Teaching will be inline with the National Curriculum and will be linked with the NPTS. We have close links with North Devon PEDPASS (Physical Education – Daily Physical Activity – School Sport) and have not only ran workshops for them at their yearly primary schools conference but have also managed the year 6 government funded top up swimming scheme for the area.
